Wightcable again!!
Since early Tuesday morning I have been without a proper net connection. Somebody, somewhere has changed a setting preventing Wightcable customers accessing websites hosted by Fasthosts.
Unfortunately as just about all my sites are hosted there, I have been rather restricted in what I have been able to do. Telephone calls to tech support have been answered, in the sense that someone picked up the handset, but so far there has been no solution.
Traceroutes from here show the problem is upstream of wightcable but, from this side of the keyboard, it’s still their problem. Thankfully Garan has come to the rescue with a temporary solution, that at least gets me on line to my hosted sites and allows webmail. In fact it’s how I posted this note.
At the moment I am waiting for a call back from the company that own the device shown as the “block” in the traceroute list – no names yet, but they have responded very well so far. A small clue for anyone interested enough, they are based on/in the Winnersh Triangle and are NOT ntl.
Cancel all that. The system seems to be fixed, at least for now!
I am now looking forward to a change of ISP when we move. Yes, I’ve stuck with Wightcable for the last few years but the last few weeks of on/off connections mean I’ll be swapping ISPs, come what may.
Thanks Garan
