Remote Desktop
I have been a great fan of the Remote Desktop facility built into Windows XP for quite a while. For those who don’t know it, it allows me to connect to my PC at home from any remote location and then have the home PC desktop appear on my screen just as if I was sitting in front of it. I use it to keep all my email in one place and to be able to get to the files and folders wherever I am.
Unfortunately it recently died and no matter what I tried I could not connect. All the port forwarding stuff was set correctly on the network, the firewalls on the home PC and laptop were clear and I had just about decided to give up when I realised that the latest version of Norton AntiVirus might have something to do with it. I was right, the new version has all kinds of protection over and above AV. I won’t go into any depth here but if you have problems connecting a remote desktop, take a look here , it sorted out my problems.
