Very Disappointing…
Got up early (for a Saturday) to watch the first of the Lions vs All Blacks test matches. What a disappointment!
I was under the impression that this was the best Lions team selection that Sir Clive could have picked, I was so very wrong. Anyone who didn’t know better could have easily concluded that these 15 had never played together before. Yes, it must be difficult when your team captain is stretchered off inside the first minute but that’s no excuse for a performance which showed no direction or determination. The Lions were outclassed in every position on the field, appalling lineout play, sloppy handling and a midfield standing on top of eachother didn’t help but I think in the end it was pure strength, skill and direction by the Blacks that finished the Lions off.
I suspect my brother Mike, who is in NZ to follow the test matches will be crying in his beer somewhere in Wellington right now, after all he and his wife Aly paid to get there and to watch a very lacklustre performance. I just lost a couple of hours under the duvet.
Final analysis: 2/10, must try harder!
