Windows 10 Update

Seems that some have come a cropper after updating Windows 10

Oh how good it feels not to have to bother with all this……

Step-by-step advice from Virgin Media

Click start, power and restart (not shut down).

Try the internet connection once it’s booted up again.

If this doesn’t work, you need to reset your IP address.
To do this, you need to open up the command prompt by following these instructions:

  • Click start
  • Click run
  • Type in “CMD” and press enter
  • This should open up a command prompt window
  • Now type in “ipconfig /release” and press enter
  • Finally, type in “ipconfig /renew” and press enter
  • Now try to go online to see if the connection is working

If this hasn’t done the trick, you can also try clearing the DNS settings.

  • To do this, open the command prompt window again
  • Now type in “ipconfig /flushdns” and press enter
  • Again, try to go online to see if your connection is working

Greg Lake – 10 Nov 1947 – 7 Dec 2016

As I said on March 11 this year., “There’s hardly a week goes by these days without a part creator of my music library leaving us”; well here we go again… this time it’s Greg Lake who, yesterday, lost his fight with cancer.

I’m pretty sure most people reading this realise that Greg found fame in King Crimson and went on to form ELP with Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer.

For anyone who’s never heard Greg’s voice or guitar playing, I recommend starting with “Lucky Man“, “C’est La Vie“, “Take a Pebble” or my favourite of all “From the Beginning” although I guess, at this time of year, I should also include “I Believe in Father Christmas“.

Again, gone but not forgotten, thanks Greg.

Some days are weird!

Weird indeed, I spent yesterday, Monday, towing a cow around the Island.weird cargo

Possibly the oddest bit was delivering it to a body shop for a “good lacquering”.

Today seemed altogether normal after that…..

Royal Winchester Golf Club - The 9th hole
The 9th hole

Had a great day today at The Royal Winchester Golf Club, nice weather, good company (thanks Pete, Doug and Paul) and reasonable golf. The course was in excellent condition, particularly the greens and bunkers and we had an unobstructed round.

At first, we were a little confused by the directional mowing of the fairways which made them look half as wide as they really were but after a couple of holes we got used to it.

Luckily for us, the round was part of a reciprocal arrangement included in our membership of Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club which meant it was free of charge.

We only managed to chat to a few members but were made to feel very welcome. I very much look forward to visiting again – the only problem with that is we have another 10 or so reciprocal clubs to visit!
